Mexican Sugar Cookies Recipe

Traditional Mexican cookies of sugar and cinnamon.

Ingredients of the Recipe:

1/4 cup orange juice, 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon, 2 1/2 cups shortening, 1 teaspoon anise seed ground, 6 cups all purpose flour, 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1/2 tablespoon cream of tartar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup white sugar.

Method of Preparation:

Heat up the oven to 350 degrees F. Shortening should be beated to make it fluffy and light. Add into it a cup of sugar and anise seed. Mix well until it becomes creamy. Add the eggs and beat. Stir in baking power, salt, cream of tartar, flour, salt and orange juice and mix. Pummel the mixture to form a dough that is smooth. Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough on it to 1/2 inch in thickness. Cut the roll into different shapes. Bake it in the preheated oven until they become light brown. Meanwhile make a mixture of 1 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons of cinnamon. Move the cookies in a rolling motion in mixture while the cookies are still warm.
