Mexican Pig-Shaped Cookies Recipe

Molasses give the spicy brown color to the marranitos.

Ingredients of the Recipe:
1. 1/4 cup shortening
2. 1/4 cup milk
3. 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
4. 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
5. 1 egg
6. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
7. 1 cup unsulfured molasses
8. 6 cups all purpose flour
9. 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
10. 1 egg beaten

Method of Preparation:
1. Heat up the oven to 350 degrees F. Outline the sheets for the cookies.

2. In a large bowl, Mix the shortening and the brown sugar in a bowl until they become smooth. Add in it the milk, vanilla extract and the egg and mix well until it gets well mixed. Then add the molasses along with the cinnamon and baking soda. Add the flour and form a firm dough.

3. Flour a surface lightly and make a dough 1/4 inch thick. Shape the cookies into the shape of a pig with hands or with cookie cutter.

4. Put these cookies on the baking sheets and with the help of a brush apply the beaten egg on the cookies. Put the cookies in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Take the cookies out when the cookies turn light brown.
